Third and Fourth observations with my ELL student

On Tuesday, March 16, 2010 and Tuesday, March 23, 2010 I observed my ELL student(Cesi) for the third and fourth time. We reviewed some of the writing samples she created during the year so I could get some idea of her writing abilities. The first sample I saw was called "How to do Pie" where Cesi wrote a short story about her fictitious experience collecting apples with her brother and baking a pie. According to her teacher, Cesi produced this sample in October and from what I could see, she wrote was able to express her ideas clearly through writing. Cesi seemed to have difficulties with the phonetics, particularly the ending sounds of words. She frequently omitted endings such as "ed" or "ing" in her sentences. Cesi produced another writing piece which was a bit more recent (February, 2010). In this narrative piece, Cesi was prompted to write about some of her experiences during her "snow days" when there was no school. Cesi was able to let her audience know that she had a snowball fight with her cousin (Jacquelin) and a few friends. I feel that Cesi was quite capable of expressing her thoughts on paper based upon what I observed, her main obstacle seems to be more related to vocabulary and phonetics as I already mentioned.
